To paint your own pebbles, thoroughly wash and dry them first then try water-based acrylic paints for bold designs. You can always seal the finished artwork with varnish for extra protection.

An Ancient Art

The practice of painting pebbles dates back at least a couple of millenia as can be seen from this discovery in Scotland. Not conventionally pretty but useful in a game of old celtic golf.
